Huye Talking To? Week 5

Week 5 – Adult's Group

Jean Marie Vianney, Marie Clarie Uwase, Rachel Wyness, Rimike Omolekulo and Shillah Batamuriza make up the adult’s group, the adults group work to empower, develop and help the local community which they do through meeting adults in their home and delivering workshops out in the community.

Over the past few weeks the adult’s group has been planning, developing and delivering workshops on topics such as Health and Sanitation, Sex Education, Business Management, Personal Finance, Leadership, English Language and How to Become a Co-Operative.

The workshops require the Adults Group to research the types of issues and difficulties that a majority of the participants would experience, within the realm of the above topics, then using resources to plan a one or two hour workshop session in which they advise and educate participants.

For example in the Personal Finance workshop, members of the Adults Group would either visit the participants in near-by banana plantations or churches, to show them how to prioritise saving, how to budget and plan financially for the future. This information was cultivated from many websites and a few personal finance books. This proved very successful with many participants as they were previously somewhat unaware of the benefits of investment and saving small amounts of extra income over a long period.

Information like this can help improve the quality of life for many adults and young people.

So far the Adults Group has worked incredibly hard to deliver all their workshops in the time frame that they have, amazingly, they have managed to help 158 adults throughout Huye. All of whom regularly thank the members of the Adults Group. The Adults’ Group are a constant reminder of how a small group of active people can really make a positive impact in the lives of others, and how it only takes a few people to challenge themselves to change their world.

The Adults' Group currently enjoy dizzying success, with their hard work, this could very well change lives and be the start of something special!

Stay tuned for week 6...
